A clear explanation before any commitment.

A commodity futures contract specifies a future transaction on agreed terms. Options on futures give buyers a contractual right linked to a futures position. Contracts have an expiry and may involve delivery or cash settlement. Trading requires product-specific knowledge.

Margin is not the full exposure

A margin deposit supports a larger contractual exposure. Leverage magnifies both gains and losses. A futures position can lose more than the amount initially deposited, and additional funding may be required.

Options need their own review

A purchased option can expire without value. Selling options creates different obligations and can produce substantial losses. Ask what happens on exercise or assignment, including whether a futures position could result. A limited initial outlay does not make an instrument suitable for every investor.

Questions for an account discussion

Which registered entity provides the service? Who carries the account? What experience and approvals are required? What are the position size, trading costs and funding obligations? What arrangements apply near expiry?
